Wash Place / 2015 / Drying racks, acrylic mirror, Colors of “Storm”, “Fog”, “Mist,” and “Hope”, water dripping sound, light / Structure: 38 x 32 x 34 inches, Mirror: 30 inches (diameter)         This piece began with thoughts on memories. Sometimes you desire to forget; sometimes you don’t. Sometimes, the memories you wish to wash away are the ones that you have to face. I was doing laundry one day, and I wished that I could do the same with my memories. I wished that I could wash and hang memories. Round drying racks form a three-tier chandelier-like structure. It is painted with colors that are chosen based on their names. From the darkest green to the lightest, they are called “Storm,” “Fog,” “Mist,” and “Hope.” A circular mirror reflects spotlights and the drying racks and creates a pattern of light and shadow on the walls and a ceiling. A recorded sound of water slowly dripping accompanies the work. The sound leads to a path for remembering and forgetting.
